Than Baylor, Pastor of Family and Children’s Ministry
Than Baylor, his wife, Michelle, and two children, Nathan and Katya, are Colorado natives and enjoy cycling, the Rocky Mountains and playing outside. Than received a BS in Elementary Education before marrying Michelle in 2001. Than also has a master’s from Denver Seminary in the areas of youth and family. Than joined the staff of SGC in 2004 and he and his family continue to look forward to many years ahead instilling passion for Jesus Christ in the lives of children.
Nancy Beal, Accountant
Nancy is native to AZ, but has lived mostly in Colorado since the late 1970s. She has been married to Andy Beal 40 years, has two children and four “highly intelligent and creative” grandchildren. She loves to read, share coffee and conversation with family and friends, do anything outdoors in the sunshine, road trips, and dark chocolate. “I’m happy to be serving Southern Gables Church’s accounting needs.”
Stephen Boyer, High School Director
Stephen has attended Southern Gables since birth and he’s so excited that he now has the opportunity to serve on staff at SGC! He completed his degree in Youth Ministry at CCU in December 2016 and is pursuing a Masters of Divinity at Denver Seminary. He loves discipling students and working with adult volunteers to see lives transformed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ. When he’s not hanging out with students, you can find him watching sports, enjoying Colorado’s outdoors, or eating ice cream.
Charity Butler, Administrative Assistant to Worship, Connections, Community Life & Men’s Ministries, Marriage & Women’s Ministries, Web Assistant, and Media Arts Director
Charity was born in Northern California, but spent most of her life in Eastern Ukraine. She graduated in 2013 with a degree in journalism from Lee University in Tennessee, then moved out to Arizona where she worked as a newspaper reporter. In Arizona, she met and married her husband Brandon. Charity and Brandon moved to the Denver area in 2015. Southern Gables was the first and only church they visited after moving out here, and they got plugged in with Life Groups right away. Charity enjoys reading, writing, hiking, traveling, and eating donuts.
Jeff Daley, Senior Pastor
Pastor Jeff experienced a revolution within when he met Jesus during his college years. Shortly after becoming a follower of Christ, he sensed God’s call to preach the Word and lead God’s people. He’s passionate about building an Acts 2 community of believers to reach our world, locally and globally, for Jesus Christ. Jeff enjoys doing almost anything outdoors, especially when it includes his wife, Christie, and three young boys, Grayson, Haddon and Shepherd. Jeff says, “I’m so very pleased to be part of the team at Southern Gables, and am excited about stepping into God’s preferred future for our church.”
Julia Grauberger, Church Administrator
Julia is the Executive Assistant to the Senior Pastor and supervises the office staff at Southern Gables. A Colorado native, she was born in Durango where her father was the county sheriff. Her family came to a relationship with the Lord through the Billy Graham crusade held in Denver in 1965. Julia’s background includes a degree in psychology as well as 30 years of ministry experience, serving on staff at a church and then working at a global missions organization before coming to serve at Southern Gables. Julia and her husband, Lee, enjoy outdoor activities in the mountains, Bronco games and travel, especially visiting their oldest son who lives in Florida.
Al Hodges, Pastor of Outreach Ministries
Al enjoys serving the SGC body through Compassion Ministries, Congregational Care and Outreach. He and Laura met in junior high, dated in high school, married in college, and have been enjoying ministry and their family ever since. Al and Laura have 3 grown sons, 3 daughters-in-law and 11 grandchildren who know them as “Tata” and “Nana.” Al has studied at Biola University, receiving an undergrad degree in Biblical Studies, and at CCU, receiving an M.A. in Biblical Counseling. He loves getting to know people (often over coffee), taking pictures, playing softball and hanging out with his grandchildren.
Ashley Hurlburt, Administrative Assistant to Emerging Generations
Ashley grew up in Eastern Colorado with her parents and two younger brothers. She lived on a farm and ranch that grows wheat, corn, sunflowers, and raises beef cattle. Growing up on the farm, she was able to ride horses and ATVs. She graduated from Colorado Christian University with a degree in Elementary Education in December 2016. She enjoys spending time with her friends and family. She loves watching the Kansas Jayhawks play basketball, which stemmed from playing basketball and watching her father coach over the years. Ashley is very excited to serve with children and student ministries and the SGC team.
Erika Knaub, Early Childhood Director
Neither Erika nor Austin are from Colorado, but their kids, Alex, Charlotte, and Max, are! Southern Gables has been home to the Knaubs for about 8 years. In those 8 years, Erika has served as a volunteer in several different ministries, but she loves being with the kids! When she’s not being mom to her own kids, she’s involved in the growth and education of other people’s kids and she believes that is her calling. She plays the oboe, helps Austin with their huge garden, LOVES playing games, and once in a while manages to put together a healthy and tasty meal for her family. Erika is excited to participate in the spiritual growth of the children of God’s Kingdom.
Tony Lang, Facilities Manager
Tony Lang was born in Marietta, Georgia. He saw a good portion of the U.S. and Europe while growing up as an Air Force dependent. Tony graduated from Cherry Creek High School in Denver, attended Metropolitan State College for two semesters with the intent to study music and journalism. Later he joined a rock band and toured the U.S. for three years. After another attempt at college and computer sciences, he married, left school and found employment with the cable TV industry for 14.5 years. Through all this the Lord graciously led him to Southern Gables and a new position as Facilities Manager. Tony and his wife Bonnie have been at Southern Gables since 1989 and have four grown children; Michael (wife Morgan), Jeremy, Paul (wife Kelly) and Sarah.
Nathanael Lawton, Middle School Director
Nathanael is from Wichita, Kansas and moved to the Denver area in 2014 to pursue studies in Youth Ministry and Theology at Colorado Christian University. His search for a church home led him to Southern Gables, where his passion for Youth Ministry helped get him involved with the life of the church. Nathanael is incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve Southern Gables Church, its families, and their students as the Middle School Director. When he is not busy working to complete his degrees in the spring of 2018 or serving at SGC, Nathanael enjoys reading, traveling, spending time outdoors, and engaging with friends.
Johan Luque, Nueva Vida Pastor
Johan grew up in Cartagena, Colombia. He met his wife Ashley, a Colorado native, while she was on a mission trip in Medellin, Colombia, and Johan was a seminary student. As with the majority of Colombians, Johan has a Catholic background which gave him the foundations that later helped him to realize that Jesus was all he needed. Johan and Ashley have two daughters, Alessandra and Sophia. Johan enjoys soccer, playing guitar and making Colombian empanadas.
Becki Nudge, Nursery Director
Becki Nudge is the Nursery Director at Southern Gables. She grew up in the Chicago area and moved to Denver after graduating from high school. She has been married to Chris since 1991 and worked as a medical assistant before becoming a mother to Samuel in 2000. She and Chris also have a daughter, Macy Reed. Becki enjoys baking, cross-stitching, swimming and going to parks with Sam and Macy Reed.
Elsie Peterson, Contributions Secretary
Elsie works part-time in the accounts receivable department of Southern Gables, maintaining all contribution records and providing the end of the year giving statements. She is a native of Colorado, the mother of an adult daughter and adult son, and grandmother to four grandsons and one granddaughter. She loves making scrapbooks, baking cakes and reading. She’s a ‘soccer Grandma’ and serves as treasurer on the Southwest Denver Soccer board.
Daniel Stover, Director of Worship
Daniel and his wife Ashly are both California natives who grew up in Christian homes and met each other in their local high school youth group. They moved to Colorado after getting married in the summer of 2014. A year later they welcomed their first child, Liam. Daniel’s passions include music, camping, fishing, golf, and good sushi. He and Ashly came to Southern Gables in June 2016. Daniel received his undergrad in music at Colorado Christian University in 2017.
Cameron Tate, Community Life Director

Cameron was born and raised in Castle Rock, CO before moving to Oregon for his high school and college years. There he met and married his bride, Katherine, and graduated with a degree in Biblical and Theological Studies from Multnomah University. After spending a year working for an international bible school in Austria as mentors, Cameron and Katherine moved to Colorado so Cameron could pursue a ministry degree at Denver Seminary. Cameron has a passion for the local church, and sharing insights about the Bible with others. He’d love to talk more about his life, and your life, over coffee, food, or on a hike.
Kasia Vincent, Administrative Assistant of Outreach Ministries
Kasia was born and raised in Poland and moved to Denver in 2003 to attend Denver Seminary, graduating in 2006 with a degree in Counseling Ministries. She married Tim in 2004 and they have three children: Abigail, Tristan, and Nel. She has two younger sisters (twins), one of whom lives in Philadelphia and the other as well as her parents are still in Poland. She has 4 nieces and 2 nephews. Since joining Southern Gables in 2003, she’s been involved in the youth ministry, and the Global Outreach Team as a deacon. She enjoys reading fiction (and a little non-fiction), scrap-booking and traveling back to Poland whenever it’s possible.
Ron Watters, Adjunct Staff – Strategic Alignment Coordinator
Originally from Wyoming, Ron and his wife, Alice (who is from Kansas), worked in leadership development in Asia for the majority of their forty-plus years on the staff of an international organization. In his volunteer capacity at SGC, he works alongside the Senior Pastor and Executive Team to align church ministries in fulfilling our mission, vision, and strategic plan within our core values. In their continuing work with the same international organization, he and his wife develop reproducing disciples locally through personal and group mentoring and coaching. Also, with his Ph.D. and significant experience as a professor and academic leader, he serves globally based from Denver to help meet critical spiritual leadership needs through developing numerous non-Western, university and graduate-level educational institutions and non-residential certificate programs. He is ordained and has three children and three grandchildren.
Phyllis Wilburn, Mid-Week Children’s Mornings Programming Director,
Phyllis was born in Amarillo Texas and lived there until age 16. Her family moved to the Denver area and have loved it here ever since. Dave and Phyllis were married in 1985 and have 2 sons, Rob and Chris. They have attended Southern Gables Church since 1985. Her interest in creative design lead her to floral design school and part-time work in the floral industry. In 2002, she was approached by a staff member to be a facilitator for MOPS children’s program. She said “I feel God directed me to this position and I continue to work as children’s director for MI2 and Women’s Bible studies on Tuesday mornings. God has truly blessed me with wonderful people and children to minister to each week.”
Kathy Williams, Elementary and Clubs Director
Kathy Williams is the director Elementary (K-4) and the Pioneer Girls and Modern Day Knights ministries that meet on Wednesday nights. She is married to Landy and between them they have four grown children and seven grandchildren. In her spare time she enjoys working in her garden and spending time with her grandchildren. Kathy feels that children at this age are in their prime to hear and believe the gospel. It is a major responsibility of the Church family and should be considered a privilege to teach them the Good News.
